**Genesis 1-3 begins with the story of creation. Believe it or not, there are several disagreements on the timeline for creation among Christians. Some believe that the entire universe was created in six literal 24-hour period. Some believe that each of the six days of creation were actually 1,000 years long. Others believe that the heavens and earth as we know them were created in six literal days, but that there is a gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2 of an unknown period of time – that God created the heavens and earth “in the beginning,” but destroyed his original creation by a flood and remade them in Genesis 1:2. This has been historically popular, but has recently become “controversial”. I personally subscribe to The Gap. If you want more details on why, go here.
**Genesis 1:26 gives us the first glimpse of The Trinity. When God made Adam, he said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness;” Who else was God talking to, if not Christ and the Holy Ghost?
I ran into an interesting translation difference in my morning study.
From Genesis 2:13, And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.
The Hebrew word “Kush” or “Cus” is translated Ethopia in the KJV, but Cush in most other versions.
Cush was the son of Ham, the cursed son of Noah. Cush was also the father of Nimrod. Cush is merely the name of a person who died thousands of years ago, if you look only at what we find in the MEV, NIV, ESV, NASV, etc.
Ethiopia, on the other hand, is a country in Africa that exists today. We need not do any extra homework to know exactly where this region is.
What caught my attention is that the person Cush appears for the first time in Genesis 10, which makes his inclusion in Genesis 2 kind of strange.
Alexander Hislop wrote more extensively about Cush. The Greek for Cush (or Kush) is Aethiop, which means “burned one.” In other words, Aethiopia/Ethiopia/Cush means black.
More than likely, Cush and his offspring were black Africans.
Furthermore, as a son of Cush, Nimrod was probably also black. Upon further study, the historical record of Nimrod resembles that of many other gods from around the world, most notably Osiris.
Osiris was black, was killed and torn apart, then “reborn” as Horus. Nimrod was also black, killed and dismembered, then “reborn” as his own child.
This provides the genesis (pun intended) for the “mother/son” mythologies that we find in many ancient religions that pre-date Christ. This is the “evidence” that many atheists use to dismiss Christianity. They say that Jesus’ birth was a Hebrew version of earlier myths.
Genesis 3:15 says, And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
Satan knew of the prophecies of Christ prior to Nimrod, Osiris and the virgin birth. Is it any surprise that he would work to influence these false religions to mimic what HE KNEW was inevitable in order to cast doubt on Scripture?
Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44), and Antichrist will be a corrupt copy of the Messiah. There have always been corrupt copies of Christ, but only one Christ.
From Nimrod to Antichrist, but only Christ will save us.
Why does this translation difference exist? I have no idea. The direct link from Cush to Ethiopia can only be found in the KJV. I do know that, once again, I prefer the rich accuracy and historical evidence that once again leads the reader to Christ in the King James Version.
**Adam is named in Genesis 2:19 when commanded to name every living creature. Eve is not given a name until Genesis 3:20. Until then, she was just called “the woman” or “wife” by both God and Adam. Eve was created as a “help meet” for Adam, but this did not make her a lesser being. By being married to Adam – notice that marriage was through sexual contact, not a government contract – Eve became “one flesh” with him.
In a proper marital relationship between one man and one woman, two human beings are linked through physical contact. When a person becomes a Christian, they become “one spirit” with the Lord (1 Cor. 6:17). Adam and Eve were a type of marriage represented by Jesus Christ (“the last Adam” – 1 Cor. 15:45) and his bride (The Church – Eph. 5:25-27).
Christ loves us more than we could ever love our own spouses, because His love is perfect and eternal. Why would anyone want to forgo a unification and marriage to the creator of the universe? I, for one, am looking forward to the marriage ceremony in Revelation 19:7-9.
