“And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.” Genesis 41:16
Oftentimes when I am given a compliment, I struggle with taking it well. It usually catches me off guard in the first please because I feel I am just doing what I’m supposed to do.
I end up responding with an awkward “thank you” mixed with a bewildered look, and all I did was my job.
Joseph just performed a miracle using a rare gift from God. An extremely few people could interpret dreams the way he did.
Yet his first reaction to praise was to give glory to God.
How much more often would God be praised if we Christians were to deflect congratulations or praise back to the Lord before ever accepting it for ourselves?
After all, it is true that our greatest talents and most insignificant achievements are all due to God allowing us to complete the task.
I pray that I make praising God my reflexive reaction in all things.
