“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
One man’s birth is celebrated by almost every country around the planet. Consumers spend over $1TRILLION in the U.S. alone! There were an estimated 8 BILLION gifts given across the globe today.
Even if you are not a believer and you celebrate a secular Christmas, your life has been affected by the birth of the only begotten Son of God. The tradition of giving gifts for Christmas is based on the Magi giving gifts to the Savior. We put stars on trees to represent the Star of David that hovered over Christ’s location. We focus on joy and forgiveness today above all others because God demonstrated his love and mercy on us when he became flesh to die for our sins.
Santa Claus is based on Saint Nicolas who has ties to Christianity as a Greek religious figure who famously gave out gifts. Without the birth of Jesus Christ, there would be no Santa.
No other religious figure in history can boast even a fraction of the global influence of Jesus Christ. The Jewish people do not believe he is the Messiah because he did not arrive as a conquering king. However, Christ did manage to conquer entire cultures, and this global tradition celebrated today is evidence of it.
One day EVERY knee will bow and EVERY tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is LORD. HE is the reason for the season, and I hope you all have a joy-filled holiday with family and friends today. I also hope you appreciate and come to a deeper understanding of the prophecy fulfilling birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Merry Christmas and God bless!
