Acts 5:29 “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.”
This ties in well with yesterday’s verse (John 19:15). Christians who capitulate to man’s laws (this includes rules, norms, and mores as well) that violate God’s laws are in violation of the Bible. We see far too many churches change for the culture rather than change the culture of society.
Social pressure keeps certain topics, like homosexuality, race, gender, and politics, out of our pulpits. On the rare occasion when a preacher does speak on these topics, it is with politically correct speech for fear of offending.
The Bible, on the other hand, is incredibly offensive to those who are not walking with God. It is designed to offend.These are just some of the moments in which we are to obey God rather than men.
We should obey God in more areas than just within the walls of church building – though “Christians” are failing to do even that much. We must obey God over men at work, at the voting booth, on the freeway, in school, on social media, when watching tv, and at the grocery store.
We must obey God always and in every situation.
I pray today that I am able to obey God rather than men, even when it is most difficult.
