“The Lord” I’m Hebrew here is Jehovah. That is the name of God Himself according to this verse.
I just read in a Bible commentary this week that the full name of Jesus is “Lord Jesus Christ.”
Those three words represent the Godhead. We see Lord, here, represents God. Jesus is the son, and Christ is a title meaning “anointed one.” In this case, Christ represents the anointing of the Holy Spirit (Acts 10:38).
Lord (Father) Jesus (Son) Christ (Holy Spirit).
That is the “name above all names” (Philippians 2:9).
No other being is worthy of that great name, especially not graven images and false gods.
Notice that Buddha is not Lord. Allāh is not Lord. Baal is not Lord.
Only Jesus Christ is Lord.
1 Corinthians 12:3b says, “and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.”
The evil spirits throughout Scripture know that Jesus is the son of God, but none called Him Lord.
That is often regarded as a test for demonic possession. If someone who appears to be possessed cannot make the declaration that “Jesus is Lord,” then they are likely possessed, not merely strung out or insane.
Lord Jesus Christ. Only the Savior is worthy of that name, which is why using any part of it as a swear word is so disrespectful. To take the name above all names in vain is a great offense. It’s so important that it made the Ten Commandments.
Yet our society has turned it into a curse word.
Philippians 2:10 reads, “That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;”
The name of the Lord Jesus should cause us to bow when we hear it. Imagine taking a knee when someone uses God’s name in vain.
If athletes can kneel as a means of protesting the American flag, Christians should be able to kneel in reverence to the name of God and as protest to it being taken in vain.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
Confess it, and you will be saved. Reject it, and be damned.
EVERY tongue will confess, whether it be this life or the next, whether it be in heaven or hell.
Do yourself, your spouse, your children, your friends, your coworkers, your boss, and everyone else a favor and confess today so you will be saved from the Lake of Fire.
Make Jesus Christ your Lord today.
