“Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?” Proverbs 27:4
Envy really is the root of almost all sin.
It was Satan’s envy of God that caused him to fall.
It was Eve’s envy that caused her to eat the fruit.
It was man’s envy that inspired the Tower of Babel.
Envy causes pride. It causes hatred and anger. It causes us to covet, to steal, to kill, to fornicate and commit adultery, to argue with parents, to fight with siblings, and to worship other gods.
Envy causes financial ruin and destroys relationships.
It is a wicked sin. The MOST wicked, by my estimation.
Envy is right now burning down our cities. It is in the hearts of our politicians and media who feed envy to the masses causing a permanent state of civil unrest.
The very concepts of “privilege” and “fair share” are manifestations of envy.
Millions of people around the globe have been murdered by starvation or in gas chambers because of envy. Others have been enslaved, either by physical chains or mental prisons because of envy.
Who, then, is able to stand before envy? Who among us can withstand its perverse calls to look like, act like, or live like someone else?
It is my great sin. It likely is yours.
Who can stand before envy? Jesus Christ.
I cannot wait for my Savior to defeat Satan and throw envy into the Lake of Fire for all eternity!
What a glorious day of victory that will be!
